The Flint Southwestern Jaguars didn't play a game for two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On a hot night in late August of 2021, the team of 40 athletes took to the field, the bleachers scattered with loved ones and school staff excited to support.
The athletics community in Flint is vast, with a long list of pro-athletes coming out of the area. Many young people consider it a route to success.
The team, after a year of just practicing without gameplay, won the match against the Dearborn Advanced Technology Lakers with a score of 40-8. With school not holding consistent in-person classes, and practices sometimes hard to get to, the win was a big accomplishment.
