As the hot summer sun begins to subside, participants of the Berston Bicycle Club Project pause for a breath on their 10-mile bike ride. The program, which launched in 2012, was developed by cyclist Angela Stamps with several goals in mind. She wanted a way for local kids to learn about bicycle safety, exercise, and how to navigate their own city. At the end of the program, participants walk away with a new bicycle of their own.

Months earlier, Demps allegedly was shot through a glass door at a Flint, Michigan Sunoco gas station by an aggravated employee when he knocked on the door of the closed store asking to buy a pack of cigarettes. After undergoing several complicated surgeries on his leg, he recovers in his brothers home.
Ramon Pool has been in the Genesee County Jail for two and a half years, and has yetto go to trial. "The fact that I've been sitting in here for so long, people think I'm guilty." he said. "But my voice hasn't been heard. Pool, 25, is not the exception. Of the 543 inmates in the jail, only 40 of them have been fully sentenced. The other 503 are awaiting trial, or only have partial sentences. In jails across the country, the majority of inmates are unsentenced and either cannot afford bail or weren't given bail. The COVID-19 pandemic has added another Layer to this issue, with the closers of courts for safety issues.

"What I would want to do, once we get this virus together, is go into the schools — all grade levels — and just talk to the young people about guns and what they’re supposed to be used for. Let them know that we can solve problems in a different kind of way — we don’t have to run to guns to solve the problem. I just wish the young people would grab onto that: You don’t have to kill somebody because of a disagreement. Because when you kill him, you kill the whole family." she expressed.
